Persian Lessons
A Jewish prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp fakes being Persian to survive, but must risk his life daily by inventing a language to teach his captor.
Synopsis
In 1942, during the German occupation of France, Gilles is arrested by SS soldiers along with other Jews and deported to a concentration camp in Germany. To avoid immediate execution, he convinces the guards that he is not Jewish, but rather Persian. Although this deception initially spares his life, Gilles is given a dangerous assignment: to teach Farsi to the camp's commandant, Koch, who aspires to open a restaurant in Iran after the war. Using his resourcefulness, Gilles devises a strategy to survive by fabricating Farsi words each day and instructing Koch in their use.
