Peter and the Wolf

FamilyAnimation

Synopsis

Sergei Prokofiev's symphonic work, first performed in Russia in 1936, is noted for both its musical composition and its narrative, which follows a young boy who outwits a cunning wolf. George Daugherty adapts this classic tale for contemporary audiences by integrating live-action with animation, accompanied by the RCA Symphony Orchestra performing Prokofiev's score. The film begins with a grandfather, played by Lloyd Bridges, hosting his daughter, portrayed by Kirstie Alley, and his grandson, played by Ross Malinger, known for his role in *Sleepless in Seattle*, during a visit to the family's country cottage. After lunch, the three settle in as the grandfather tells the story of Peter's encounters with a bird, a cat, and a clumsy duck near the edge of a dark forest. The narrative transitions into an animated sequence designed by Chuck Jones, famous for his work on Wile E. Coyote. The "story within a story" is brought to life, with the musical instruments also personified as playful characters.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 16

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
