Pink Boy
Synopsis
*Butch* is a 25-minute documentary that offers an intimate look at a gender-creative boy growing up in conservative rural Florida. The film follows BJ, a butch lesbian who managed to avoid wearing dresses her entire life. Her perspective shifts when she adopts Jeffrey, who, to her surprise, begins dancing in gowns and performing for his parents. As six-year-old Jeffrey expresses a growing desire to wear dresses in public, BJ must carefully determine where it is safe for him to do so, navigating challenges at school, a rodeo in Georgia, and ultimately, Halloween—a holiday particularly significant for a boy who loves all things pink.
