Potseluy
Synopsis
Lieutenant Ryabovich, used to the routine of military life, found civilian society perplexing and alien—its rituals of conversation, games of cards and billiards, and casual encounters with women left him unsettled. One evening, at the estate of a provincial landowner, a woman kisses Ryabovich, and from that moment, her image, real or imagined, dominates his thoughts. At the same time, the carefree Lieutenant Lobytko mocks his more sensitive friend, unaware of the emotional peril Ryabovich is facing.
