Promise Me This

An elderly man named Zivojin Markovic, living in a remote village, prays that his grandson Cane will travel to the city, sell his cow, and return with a wife. In the city, Cane is supposed to meet his grandfather's stepbrother, but the man is already dead. Instead, he meets the man's two grandsons, two good-natured brothers who are small-time criminals and experts in demolition. Cane quickly bonds with these men and also falls in love with a schoolgirl named Jasna, whom he wants to marry as part of fulfilling his grandfather's wish. He becomes involved in Jasna's family affairs, rescuing her and her mother from prostitution and gangsters led by a man named Bajo. Eventually, the group returns to the village in time for Zivojin's wedding to his neighbor, despite the gangsters' attempts to disrupt the celebration, which culminates in a double wedding.
