A young man trapped in the bleak underbelly of Rovaniemi seeks escape through a desperate heist, as a former addict-turned-filmmaker captures his fight to break free from addiction and a life on the edge.
Synopsis
*Reindeerspotting* is a documentary following a group of young men in Rovaniemi, located on the Arctic Circle, as they engage in petty crime and drug use. One of them, Jani, has spent five years of his life and lost two fingers to his dealers. He is determined to leave Lapland and his past behind. Robbing a supermarket becomes the initial step in his attempt to escape. The filmmaker, Joonas Neuvonen, was once a young man on social welfare, using drugs daily. He began documenting the lives of his friends, and this film is the result of that work, focusing on Jani's story.
