Synopsis
This documentary explores the intertwined history of violent European colonialism and the cultural legacy of ethnographic collections held by institutions. It traces the development of colonial history from the Berlin Conference of 1884–85 through to the systematic erasure of cultural traditions, religions, and ways of life, which occurred through sporadic genocides and warfare across the African continent until the early 20th century. The film examines inquiries and movements for historical justice, the connections between European institutions and colonial violence, and the ongoing struggles against these organizations to reclaim what was taken.
