Richard III: The King in the Car Park
Synopsis
This documentary explores the search for the remains of King Richard III of England (1452–1485). After his death at the Battle of Bosworth Field on August 22, 1485, his body was taken to Leicester and believed to have been buried at Greyfriars Church. The church no longer exists, and its remains were thought to lie beneath a car park. Phillipa Langley of the Richard III Society persuaded archaeologists from the University of Leicester to conduct an excavation. To their surprise, the first skeleton they uncovered was later confirmed to be that of the king through DNA testing, which showed a match to Canadian Michael Ibsen, a direct descendant of Richard III's sister.
