Synopsis
Comedian Rik Mayall died suddenly on 9 June 2014. Mayall's style combined high-energy physical comedy, surrealism, subversive satire, and an irreverent, pompous wit that defined his work over four decades. Among his most notable characters were Kevin Turvey, the obsessive Black Country investigator; Rik, the Felicity Kendal-adoring student and "People's Poet" in *The Young Ones*; Alan B'Stard, the ruthless MP in *The New Statesman*; Richie, the seedy loser in *Bottom*; and larger-than-life roles such as Robin Hood and the flying ace Lord Flashheart in *Blackadder*. Narrated by Simon Callow, this programme honours Rik Mayall's legacy in UK comedy history, using rare and unseen archive footage. It also includes contributions from those who knew or admired him, including Michael Palin, Simon Pegg, Lenny Henry, Ben Elton, Alexei Sayle, Christopher Ryan, Tim McInnerny, Jools Holland, Ruby Wax, and Greg Davies.
