Synopsis
Tom Ripley, a cool, urbane, and wealthy murderer, resides in a villa in the Veneto with Luisa, his girlfriend who plays the harpsichord. A former business associate from Berlin's underworld visits Ripley, seeking his help in killing a rival. Ripley, ever observant of human nature, begins a psychological experiment to manipulate Jonathan Trevanny, a mild and innocent local picture framer, into becoming a hit man. Trevanny, who is dying of cancer, has a wife, a young son, and little to leave them. As Ripley draws Jonathan into the scheme, the question arises: can Ripley maintain control? Does the plan stop at one killing? What happens if Ripley begins to develop a conscience?
