Rise, Again

Synopsis

“Rise Again” is a collaboration with Grammy Award-winning artist Arooj Aftab and filmmaker Josephine Decker, as part of the ongoing “Sun Dogs” project. The project pairs composers and filmmakers to create short films with new music for live orchestra. The film and music in “Rise Again” were created through improvisations and feature an intimate repetition that layers individual experiences with community. It tells the story of four mothers who face eviction and raise their children with love and fortitude. The concept emerged from four unique experiences that resonated deeply with each other, as if the women were sharing their own stories. The film was created collaboratively with women supported by Upward Bound House.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 17

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
