Synopsis

Rita Hayworth, born Margarita Cansino on October 17, 1918, in New York City, was an American actress and dancer who became one of the most iconic pin-up stars and leading ladies of Hollywood's Golden Age. She began her career in the 1930s as a dancer, performing with her family in vaudeville and later in Broadway shows. In 1935, she signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), where she was renamed Rita Hayworth and launched into stardom. Her breakout role came in 1941 with *Cover Girl*, in which she performed the famous "Steamboat Willie" number. Throughout the 1940s, she became a symbol of glamour and sophistication, starring in films such as *Gilda* (1946), in which her performance as the sultry title character remains one of her most memorable. Hayworth was married four times, including to actor Tyrone Power and composer Arthur Freed. She retired from acting in 1957, though she made occasional appearances afterward. She passed away on May 14, 1987, in New York City.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 20

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
