Rose Island
An idealistic engineer builds a floating micronation to prove his vision of freedom, only to clash with a powerful government determined to crush his dream and reclaim the sea.
Synopsis
In 1968, engineer Giorgio Rosa founded the independent state known as "The Isle of Roses" off the coast of Rimini. It was constructed on a platform located outside Italian territorial waters, with Esperanto designated as its official language. The Italian government responded negatively to the micronation, perceiving it as a means to avoid paying taxes on the revenue generated by the influx of tourists and curious visitors.
