Synopsis
A barmaid serves a customer with a smile and cherries from a newly delivered box. When she refuses to give a cherry to a poorly dressed tradesman who regularly runs a tab at the bar, he pays off his debt in anger, using all the money he has earned for the week. He then enters his sparsely furnished home, now penniless and without supplies, where his wife and two children, poorly clothed and undernourished, wait anxiously. Is there any hope for him and his family? If he comes to understand how far he has fallen, what support is available to help him rise again? Will the family ever experience the taste of cherries?
