Russian Revolution Through Its Films
Synopsis
The two decades following the Russian Revolution were shaped by a group of young individuals who had a significant impact on Russian cinema. This artistic movement was driven by directors, actors, technicians, and poets. The film presents these figures and their perspectives. Soviet actress Ada Voistik and her comrades recount the story of this distinctive era through the imagery of Soviet fictional works produced between 1917 and 1934. Through these works, viewers gain insight into their efforts to build a new society, where creative freedom was of central importance. This vision of a utopia was ultimately undermined by an authoritarian regime that affected cinema as well as other aspects of society.
