Synopsis
In 1910 in Kansas, widowed farmer Jacob Witting struggles to manage his farm and care for his two children, Anna and Caleb, alone. To address this challenge, Jacob places an advertisement in a newspaper seeking a mail-order bride. The ad catches the attention of Sarah Wheaton, described as "plain and tall," who responds and travels from Maine to Kansas to marry Jacob. As time passes, a bond forms between Sarah and the Witting family, though Sarah often feels homesick for Maine. Ultimately, she must decide whether to remain in Kansas or return to her home.
