Scandal in a Small Town

Leda Beth Vincent lives in the small town of Shiloh and works as a cocktail waitress. She is not widely respected, as she is not seen as a modest or innocent woman, but she is far from being a prostitute and raises her daughter, Julie, a high school student, with love and responsibility. When Leda Beth discovers that Julie's popular history teacher, Mr. Baker, is promoting antisemitic views among his students, she decides to confront him for an explanation. However, she faces resistance. No one in the town, least of all Julie, supports her, and it appears she may need to take the Board of Education to court. The problem is that a school dropout and a woman of her reputation holds little weight compared to those perceived as more educated and morally upright.
