Synopsis
Shot in 1959, *Scotch Tape* is Jack Smith's first film—a three-minute color piece set to Peter Duchin's rhumba "Carinhoso." It features three young men dancing joyfully through the rubble of demolished buildings at the site that would later become Lincoln Center. The film was apparently never edited and was instead cut in the camera by Smith, who combined long shots and close-ups, primarily shooting from an overhead perspective. The title derives from a strip of scotch tape that had accidentally adhered to the camera and remained visible in the lower-right corner of the frame throughout the film.
