Seawards the Great Ships
Synopsis
A documentary focusing on shipbuilding on the River Clyde, this film captures the industry in 1960, when Glasgow and other towns and ports along the west coast of Scotland remained among the world's leading centers of ship construction. It provides an overview of the process of building a ship—the largest moving object created by humans—covering the roles of naval architects in the design phase, the labor of the workers, and the activities of the shipbuilders in the yard, culminating in the ship's launching.
