Synopsis
"Selamlik" is a film that explores the architectural and cultural significance of the selamlik, the male section of an Ottoman palace or house. This area, derived from the Turkish word "selam" meaning "greeting," was traditionally used for receiving and entertaining guests, reflecting social customs of the time. The film draws parallels between the selamlik and the ancient Greek andron, highlighting shared cultural functions in hospitality and public interaction. In contrast, it also examines the haremlik, the private women's quarters, akin to the Greek gynaeceum, emphasizing the division between public and private life in both Ottoman and ancient Greek societies.
