Synopsis

Set in the North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s, the story follows George and Serena Pemberton, a love-struck newlywed couple who begin constructing a timber empire. Serena quickly demonstrates her capability, matching any man in overseeing loggers, hunting rattlesnakes, and even saving a man's life in the wilderness. As they gain power and influence, the Pembertons become determined to pursue their ambitions and love without interference. However, when Serena uncovers George’s hidden past and confronts an unchangeable fate of her own, their passionate marriage begins to unravel, leading to a dramatic reckoning.
