Synopsis
Set in the Carpathian Mountains of 19th-century Ukraine, the story explores the enduring themes of love, hate, life, and death among the Hutsul people. Ivan is drawn to Marichka, the attractive young daughter of the man who killed his father. However, fate cruelly ensures that the two lovers will never be together.
