Synopsis
The documentary celebrates Sister Rose Thering, a Dominican nun who has spent 67 years in religious life. Her lifelong focus has been on combating anti-Semitism. Archival footage explores her early years in Wisconsin and her taking of the veil in her teens. Interviews with scholars and members of the general public highlight the prevalence of the term "Christ killers" as a common Catholic characterization of Jews. Sister Rose's research at Saint Louis University in the 1950s, which examined the portrayal of Jews in Catholic educational materials, contributed to the eventual release of "Nostra Aetate," a document issued in 1965 by the Second Vatican Council. Since then, she has devoted herself to eliminating anti-Semitism. The film concludes with a critique of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ."
