Somalinimo

As students return to universities around the world, four British-Somali students discuss their experiences at one of Britain's most elite institutions: Cambridge University. Grounded in Somalinimo—“the essence of being Somali”—the film serves as a tribute to Somali culture, Blackness, and Islam, as the women reflect on themes of belonging and marginalization. They speak about tensions with their parents, the solidarity they have developed at Cambridge, and the legacy they are building for future generations of British-Somalis. Through their stories, they reinterpret a traditional Somali proverb: “Clothing that is not yours cannot shelter you from the cold.”
