Synopsis
On August 15, 2021, Afghanistan descended into chaos as the withdrawal of Western forces led to the rapid collapse of the existing regime. Within a single day, the Afghan army disbanded, leaders fled, and the Taliban captured Kabul without resistance. This marked a new chapter in the country’s troubled history, twenty years after the "war on terror" was initiated by George W. Bush in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks. The Taliban, now in control of the 40 million people in the country, positioned themselves as victors over the United States. Their plan was clear: to reestablish the Islamic emirate and implement "true" sharia law, applying divine commandments strictly as they were during the time of the prophet.
