Synopsis
In 2199, five years after the Gamilons began their invasion of Earth, the planet has been devastated by the aliens' bombardment. The surviving human population has taken refuge underground to avoid the radiation-contaminated surface. One day, former pilot Susumu Kodai discovers a capsule sent from the planet Iscandar, containing information about a device capable of purifying Earth's surface of radiation. The Earth Defense Force undertakes the reconstruction of the battleship Yamato, equipped with a new propulsion system, to embark on a 148,000 light year journey to Iscandar in an effort to save Earth. Within a year, the radiation will render the planet uninhabitable for the remainder of humanity.
