Stanley Kubrick's Boxes
Synopsis
A few years after his death, the widow of Stanley Kubrick (1928–1999) asks Jon Ronson to examine the contents of approximately 1,000 boxes of meticulously organized materials left behind by Kubrick. Ronson discovers that most of the boxes contain items related to Kubrick's work after the 1975 release of *Barry Lyndon*, a period during which his film output slowed. Among the materials are audition tapes for *Full Metal Jacket*, photographs used to find the right hat for *A Clockwork Orange* or the correct doorway for *Eyes Wide Shut*—thousands of details reflecting Kubrick's exacting approach to filmmaking. Ronson interprets the boxes as illustrating "the rhythm of genius." The account also includes interviews with Kubrick's family, staff, and friends.
