An unofficial sequel to the film *Ivan Vasilyevich Changes His Profession*, the story takes place on New Year's Eve 1997–1998, 24 years after the events of the original. The main characters—Shurik, Bunsha, Zina, and Ulyana Andreyevna—are preparing to celebrate the holiday. Shurik, the engineer Alexander Sergeyevich Timofeev, decides to showcase his rebuilt and modernized time machine to his guests. Their journey takes them to the 16th century, where they encounter an elderly Georges Miloslavsky, who has served as regent for 25 years in place of Ivan the Terrible, who has fled. The Tsar, inspired by the profession of Zina and Yakin, has chosen to pursue filmmaking and gone to "Mosfilm" instead of attending to his royal duties. To restore the correct historical timeline, the group uses the time machine again, traveling back to the 1970s to find the Tsar, who now dreams of becoming an actor.
