Strokkur
Synopsis
Initially, the goal was to create something from nothing in a neutral and unfamiliar setting, gathering rather than producing images and sounds. The tools used were the camera, the microphone, and the mini-amplifier—devices that take away and then return. A guiding principle was established: the sound should not illustrate the image, and the image should not absorb the sound. Less than a hundred kilometers from Reykjavik, the location chosen was Strokkur. Over three days, the internal dynamics of the crevice were observed and recorded: the boiling water erupting every seven minutes and the thermal contrast, with the ambient temperature at eighteen degrees below zero.
