Sword of Honour

Synopsis
Guy Crouchback joins the war effort during World War II, driven by an idealistic desire to align himself with the forces of good in the fight against evil. However, his efforts are not rewarded, as he is never given the opportunity to participate in any real combat; circumstances consistently prevent him from doing so. Instead, he finds himself in the middle of an army populated by cowards, incompetents, and a few outright evil men. These individuals, in contrast, reap the benefits of war—promotions and fame—while Crouchback remains untouched by such rewards. His war becomes an endless series of transfers and a hopeless yet noble pursuit of righteousness.
