Syntagma

Released: 1983Runtime: 18 minLanguage: DE

The body, particularly the "woman's body," frequently serves as a focal point for inquiries into origins, subject-object relationships, political resistance, and sexuality. Valie Export's concept of "body language" introduces an ironic perspective on these issues, recognizing "the end of the body" or, at the very least, a definitive departure from understanding it as a biological, existential, or metaphysical entity. Export has distanced herself from any idea of unity—whether in body, space, or time—entering instead a fragmented realm of doubling and difference that is embedded within representation.
