A determined British naval officer battles bureaucratic inertia and international tension to launch a daring rescue of trapped Russian sailors before their dwindling air supply expires.

Synopsis
On August 12, 2000, during a Russian naval exercise in the Barents Sea, the K-141 Kursk submarine suffered a serious accident and subsequently sank, with 118 crew members on board. Some of the surviving sailors managed to reach the submarine's aft compartments, where they remained for several days. Meanwhile, the families of the crew sought accurate information about the incident, and a British officer attempted to secure permission from the Russian government to conduct a rescue operation. However, bureaucratic delays and general incompetence hindered all efforts to save the remaining crew.
