The Cost of Meat

Every year, 70 billion farm animals are slaughtered for consumption around the world, with 80 percent raised on large-scale farms. These animals often live in overcrowded conditions, never experiencing the outdoors, before being fattened and slaughtered. In less than two generations, industrial farming has become the global norm. Researchers in Poland, the USA, Germany, and Vietnam investigate the system and those behind it. The meat industry receives state subsidies, and corporations, governments, and consumers indirectly support a deregulated system that normalizes the mass consumption of animal products. This system leads to widespread animal suffering, reducing animals to commodities and raw materials that can be produced and processed at will. The documentary film explores the rise of industrial agriculture and its consequences.
