The End of the World

This coming-of-age film portrays the daily lives of young people living in a newly constructed housing estate on the outskirts of Lisbon. With school offering little in the way of structure and employment opportunities scarce, the girls seek to make the most of their limited options for fun. Eva, the new girl, is strikingly attractive but reserved, leaving the others uncertain whether her quiet demeanor stems from shyness or aloofness. Iara and Eva visit the beach with two boys, who transform a pair of abandoned shopping trolleys into makeshift racing chariots, sparking a sense of excitement and connection. Tensions arise later when they argue with the rest of the group. While the other girls manage to gain entry to a nightclub that evening, the boys are left waiting outside, frustrated and eager to prove themselves. They eventually reunite with Eva and return to her home.
