The Excluded
Synopsis
*Die Ausgesperrten* centers on four young people in Vienna who form an unlikely alliance and turn to mugging, each driven by their own motivations. Two of them are fraternal twins, the third is a blue-collar worker, and the fourth is a privileged daughter of affluent parents who feels the need to experience "a little dirt in her life." The film offers a sharp look at 1950s Austria, a time when the "Economic Miracle" brought prosperity to some while leaving others excluded and marginalized. It frequently touches on Austria's Nazi history and the ways it continues to shape the present, despite the prevailing silence and avoidance surrounding the topic.
