Synopsis
Merrell Gage, head of the sculpture department at USC when the film was made by the university, was a lifelong expert on Abraham Lincoln. The short film was based on a lecture frequently delivered by Gage, in which he used wet clay to illustrate the evolving changes to Lincoln's face over time, including shifts in hairstyle, the growth of a beard, and the visible effects of aging. Frequently shown on television, the film offers an insightful look at one of history's significant statesmen.
