Synopsis
Following a series of minor tremors in Los Angeles, Dr. Clare Winslow, a local seismologist, identifies the precise location and time of the long-anticipated earthquake known as "The Big One," set to strike southern California. Armed with this knowledge, she confronts city officials to convince them to disclose the information to the public. She also hopes her family will be safe when the quake occurs. Subplots explore how various families and individuals respond to the tremors preceding the impending "Big One."
