Synopsis

Starr Carter, a 16-year-old girl raised in a poverty-stricken urban neighborhood, attends a suburban prep school. When she witnesses a police officer shoot her unarmed best friend, she becomes caught between her two distinct worlds as she struggles to find her voice and speak the truth.
