Synopsis
A new, technologically advanced Soviet nuclear submarine, the Red October, is en route to the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius. The American government believes Ramius is preparing to launch an attack. However, lone CIA analyst Jack Ryan suspects a different motive: he believes Ramius is attempting to defect. Ryan has only a few hours to locate and verify this theory, as both the Russian naval and air forces are also actively searching for Ramius. A high-stakes hunt ensues.
