The Infidel

Mahmud Nasir lives in a London suburb with his wife, Saamiya, and their two children, Rashid and Nabi. His son, Rashid, plans to marry Uzma, the step-daughter of Egyptian-born Arshad Al-Masri, a controversial figure referred to as a 'Hate Cleric' from Waziristan, Pakistan. Although Mahmud is not particularly devout—drinking alcohol and not observing the five daily prayers—he agrees to try to appease Arshad, as the marriage cannot proceed without his approval. Shortly after, while going through his recently deceased mother's documents, Mahmud discovers that he was adopted and that his birth parents were Jewish. His original name is revealed to be Solly Shimshillewitz.
