Synopsis

Archaeologist Katja Bennecke leads an excavation at the base of a Mayan pyramid in Yucatán, Mexico. She unexpectedly uncovers the mask of Gonzalo Guerrero, a Spanish warrior from legend who became a supreme general under the Maya—a remarkable discovery. Her colleague Gerd attempts to steal the artifact, but Katja catches him in the act. He is arrested and soon dies under mysterious conditions in a Mexican prison. Katja's daughter, Maren, arrives unexpectedly and is kidnapped in the city. The kidnappers demand the mask in exchange for her release. However, Katja realizes the artifact does not belong to her. To rescue her daughter, she must take on the role of a thief herself.
