The Look of Silence
A grieving brother returns to Indonesia’s 1965 purge to confront the men who killed his sibling, forcing a nation’s hidden trauma into the light and risking deadly retaliation.
Synopsis
Ramli, an Indonesian man with a communist background, was brutally murdered during the "Communist" purge in 1965. His surviving family lived in fear and silence until the making of this documentary. Adi, Ramli's brother, decided to revisit the incident by meeting the men responsible for the killings and one survivor of the purge. These meetings revealed disturbing details about the murders and exposed the raw emotions and reactions of the killers' family members regarding the past, which deeply disappointed Adi.

How many hands made this film
The scale of the collaboration
Principal cast & crew: 16
These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.
Why a floor?
This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
