The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey

In 1348, during the spread of the plague in medieval England, the remote village of Little Griffin faces danger. A nine‑year‑old boy experiences a recurring dream featuring a lake with a floating coffin, a white church bearing an iron cross, a falling glove, a falling silhouette, and a torch descending through a dark shaft into infinity. He and his brother interpret the vision as a prophecy for escaping the Black Death. Consequently, they join several men on a journey to a distant cathedral where they intend to place an iron cross as an offering to God. Their path takes them through a deep, dark mine shaft into an unfamiliar land and an unexpected era—the present‑day New Zealand of the 1980s.
