The Ninth
Synopsis
At the end of the 19th century, St. Petersburg is gripped by a wave of fascination with the occult and esoteric sciences. British medium Olivia Reed arrives in the Russian Empire's capital on a tour, drawing large crowds to her public spiritualist séances. Around the same time, a string of mysterious ritualistic murders begins to unfold in the city. Girls are kidnapped from the streets, their bodies found mutilated in various locations. The investigation is led by a young police officer, Rostov, and his assistant, Ganin. As the number of victims increases, the case becomes increasingly complex. Rostov grows suspicious of Olivia and decides to approach her, hoping that her real or imagined ability to summon the spirits of the dead might help uncover the identity of the killer.
