Synopsis
Double bassist Orin O'Brien was not one to seek the spotlight, but when Leonard Bernstein hired her in 1966 as the first female musician in the New York Philharmonic, it was inevitable that she would draw significant attention. Now 87 and recently retired, O'Brien reflects on her notable life and career, emphasizing that the focus should not be on her, as she prefers to support the family, students, friends, and colleagues around her.
