The Oubliette
Synopsis
François Villon, a vagabond, poet, and philosopher, and his friend Colin leave their vagabond camp and head toward Paris. During their journey, Villon is moved by the sight of an elderly couple being evicted from their modest home. He uses the money from his and Colin's purses to pay the Beadle, allowing the couple to remain, and they continue on their way. When hunger strikes, they steal the purses of two overweight monks. As a result of this crime, both Villon and Colin are arrested and imprisoned. This film and *By the Sun's Rays* are among Lon Chaney's earliest surviving films.
