The Paedophile Next Door
Synopsis
Historian Steve Humphries investigates shortcomings in policies and legislation designed to protect children from sexual abuse, uncovering radical new approaches proposed by a growing number of child-protection experts that challenge entrenched attitudes and emotional responses to paedophiles. Senior lecturer Sarah Goode argues that the most effective way to reduce child-abuse cases is to encourage individuals to seek treatment before they act on their impulses and target victims. This theory is supported by an interview in the programme in which Humphries meets a man who makes an extraordinary on-camera confession.
