The Sea Horse

The film explores the sea horse, the only fish that swims upright. It observes the sea horse using its prehensile tail to wrap around plants and other sea horses. A frontal bulge contains organs, including an air ballast. The fish is propelled by three fins. The film shows a female placing her eggs in a male's pouch, where they are fertilized and nurtured until birth, which occurs through violent contractions. Nurturing blood vessels are present inside the pouch. The film then follows the development of an embryo, greatly magnified, showing its beating heart and moving dorsal fin. Young sea horses attach themselves to each other. The film concludes with images of many sea horses moving along the ocean floor, superimposed on a horse race.
