The Seafarers
Synopsis
Stanley Kubrick’s first color film was commissioned by the Seafarers International Union to promote the advantages of union membership. Filmed within the union’s Atlantic and Gulf Coast District facilities, the film includes scenes of ships, machinery, cafeteria activities, and meetings, showcasing the daily lives and sense of community among seafarers. Believed to be lost for many years, the film was rediscovered in 1973 and preserved by the Library of Congress.
