The Secret Life of Mrs. Beeton

In 19th-century Victorian England, Mrs. Isabella Beeton produced a book that became essential for housewives of the time. She married Sam Beeton, a publisher of books and magazines on various subjects, at a relatively young age. Rather than confining herself to the traditional role of a housewife, Mrs. Beeton became involved in her husband's business, initially as an editor correcting English and later writing some of the columns herself. It was during this period that she conceived the idea for a cookbook, leading to the creation of *Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management*. Her life, however, was not without hardship. The publishing business faced bankruptcy, she lost two children at a young age, and experienced several miscarriages. She died at the age of 28.
